"JUNETEENTH" END OF YEAR CELEBRATION!

Attention Fernwood Students and Parents

We are quickly approaching the conclusion of the 2020-21 school year. This year we will be hosting an end-of-year community event in recognition of Juneteenth. Juneteenth, a combination of the word June and the nineteenth day, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people of Texas, then the most remote region of the Confederacy, finally learned slavery had been abolished and that they were free. Although not widely known, June 19th has been celebrated as a day of liberation amongst African Americans for decades. In recognition of this, we will utilize June 18th to celebrate, educate and empower our school community.

During our Juneteenth Celebration, we will have a variety of activities for our school community including:
  • CareVan/Vaccinations truck providing COVID-19 vaccines
  • Pop-up Farmers Market for 100 attendees and BCBSIL bags
  • Zumba and Yoga Workouts
  • Health Educations via Blue Door Neighborhood Resources
  • Class vs Class Cha-Cha Slide Competition
  • Staff vs Students Competitions
  • AR Links Raffle Drawings
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU THERE!
